Veterinary office informs about mandatory examinations for wild boar

Saale-Holzland-Kreis As the district office informs, the garbage cans in Oberbodnitz and Schkölen, in which parts of wild boar not suitable for consumption could previously be disposed of (offal, rind, head, legs, bones), have been closed since December 1st. However, it is still possible to dispose of this material free of charge in the garbage cans at the location of the Jena-Saale-Holzland Veterinary and Food Monitoring Office (ZVL) in Stadtroda, Kirchweg 18, as well as at the Jena fire department, Am Anger 28, as this disposal is supported and financed by the ZVL.

It is also permitted to leave the remains from breaking up healthy wild boar in the hunting ground, provided there are no risks. Burying is also still possible - except in water protection areas. However, if there is a suspicion of a disease that can be transmitted to humans or animals, the offal of all wild animals may neither be left nor buried in the hunting ground, the office also announced.

New priorities have been set in the area of responsibility of the ZVL for monitoring African swine fever, as the risk is still considered to be high and the disease is occurring in several federal states. For this reason, mandatory blood tests have been carried out on wild boar in certain areas along the A4 and A9 highways since the beginning of the year, while voluntary blood tests remain possible in the rest of the ZVL's area of responsibility. From 2026, the fee for the Trichinella examination of wild boar will be increased to 13 euros per sample due to increased costs.
